Counselors

One of the things you will notice at Hybid Farm is that there are always very helpful and wonderful ladies and gentlemen ready to help.

Who are our counselors?

Our counselors are our students who have truly excelled in their skill level, their commitment to safety practices and proper riding techniques, their ability to serve younger riders, and their commitment to riding and to our barn and horses.  You will find each and every one of them very polite and friendly.

Are counselors paid?

One of the many great things about our counselors is that they are willing to volunteer their time at camp each summer and because of this, we are able to offer scholarships to those students who would not be able to ride due to financial difficulties.

Do they receive special training?

Each of our counselors is required to attend counselor training before the start of camp. They must be current Hybid Farm students, and most are members of our Pony Club Riding Center.  Each understands that they make a huge contribution to a camper’s education and fun….and they take their job seriously….but with a whole lot of enthusiasm and fun!

How are counselors chosen?

All of our instructors give their input as to who should be asked to join the counselor program, but the ultimate decision is always Rita’s.  The selection process is not “pick her favorite student” as she loves them all, but a process strictly to do with safety, knowledge, and ability to interact with our campers.

The parents of our campers look to us to provide the best and safest experience we can for their child and we need to honor that first over someone’s feelings being hurt.  So if you are not chosen to be a counselor, it does not mean you will not be chosen in the future. We urge you to keep learning, keep improving, and strive for excellence so that in the future you will be prepared for this important and fun job.
